Picking out a snowboard can seem like a daunting task. At 5th Element we keep things simple and focus primarily on boards perfect for beginners or those within their first few years of riding. That means one of the few things to ask yourself is “What size do I need?”.
The Simple Answer: We’ve done the work for you. Each of our snowboards has a size chart specific to that model of snowboard on the product page. Simply find your weight and height and you’ll be told the appropriate size for that board. Most people will fall in between two columns and can choose between the two sizes based on how long they’ve been riding. Smaller boards will be easier to control and learn on for beginners where longer boards will help progressing riders ride a little faster or float in deeper snow. Either size is ok to choose.
Below is an example of one of our Men’s Snowboard Size Charts.
How We’ve Determined This: You may have heard that the length of your snowboard should come up to the area between your nose and chin. While for an average-sized person this is generally where it ends up, your snowboard doesn’t really know how tall you are. What matters the most is how much you weigh so we start there and adjust occasionally for height. For example, it’s a bit overwhelming for a kid to ride a snowboard that’s as tall as them. Likewise, someone who’s very tall and has long legs may have the leverage to control something a bit longer. We’ve already made these adjustments for you in our chart. The reality is, most boards will cover a pretty wide range of rider weights, meaning you can generally ride boards usually within 2-3cm +/- of what is suggested. Our suggestions are simply what we think will work best for you on our boards.
